Today, SQUARE ENIX held a closed press conference detailing the upcoming DISSIDA FINAL FANTASY arcade title. The title is being developed in partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Koei Tecmo’s Team Ninja, and will be heading to arcades in Japan sometime in 2015.
The combat of the game differs from the 1v1 style seen in previous DISSIDIA titles, and will instead be a 3v3 brawl. Summons also make their return, with actions filling up a summoning gauge. Once the gauge is full, the team can initiate a “vote” to call the summon into battle. The Brave Points system, from the PlayStation Portable titles, also makes its return in DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY arcade.
Not much was revealed in regards to the story. Previous titles in the series have focused on the conflict between Cosmos and Chaos, the gods of harmony and discord respectively. It seems that the arcade version, however, will instead introduce two new deities that characters will be fighting on behalf of.
More than 50 characters are planned for the final roster, though not all may be available at launc. A string of post-release content, such as characters and new costumes, is planned. Ramza Beoulve, from FINAL FANTASY TACTICS, will be one of the characters added in the post-release content.
DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY will be exclusive to Japanese arcades for a one year period, after which point it is highly likely that the game will see a release on home consoles.
