Game Producer and Director, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P), announced the release date of FINAL FANTASY XIV Heavensward at PAX East, today.
Pre-orders for the first expansion pack to FINAL FANTASY XIV will begin from March 16th, 2015 with an Early Access period starting on June 19th, 2015. The general release date is 23rd June, 2015. The expansion will be available in three flavours: a Collector’s Edition, featuring bonus in-game items as well as physical goodies such as a dragon statue, a Standard edition, featuring just the expansion, and an All-In-One bundle that includes A Realm Reborn and Heavensward – perfect for players just starting out. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC and, from Heavensward onward, also on Macs. Exact system requirements for the Mac version have not yet been announced.
Heavensward brings a tonne of new content to Eorzea. Adventurers will venture up north to explore the previously inaccessible region of Ishgard. While in Ishgard, players will be able to fly using flying mounts such as a Black Chocobo, Dragon and even construct their own Single-Rider Airships. Three new job classes have been added, each taking it’s position within the holy MMORPG trinity. The Dark Knight fills the role of tank, wielding a two-handed sword and channelling the power of Darkness. The Machinist fills the DPS slot, using gunplay and mechanical creations. The Astrologian rounds the set out as the healer, using a unique tarrot card stance-based system to switch between offense and defense. The level cap for all jobs will be raised to level 60. A brand new race, the Au Ra, is also available for players.
Level 60 players will be able to take on the new raid dungeon, Alexander. Alexander will be split into Story and Hard Mode difficulties, allowing more casual players a chance to see the story while giving hardcore raiders a challenge. Yoshi-P also mentioned that they are considering a token based loot system to avoid situations where undesirable loot repeatedly drops from groups, but the full details of this have not yet been ironed out.
A benchmarking program will be available from April 2015, featuring a video benchmark allowing players to guage the performance of their hardware using the new Direct X 11 engine. Like the A Realm Reborn benchmark, a character creator will be included too – so eager fans can get to making their desired Au Ra appearance well in advance of release.
A lot of the information covered in the PAX panel was a recap of announcements from previous Live Letters and Fan Festivals. However, in true Yoshi-P fashion, there were some treats in store for fans to lap up. Level 60 armor sets and weapons were shown off for all existing jobs (including Disciples of the Land and Disciples of the Hand) as well as a preview of the exterior of the Alexander raid instance. Disciples of the Land will also be getting special areas where they can gather rare materials. This was all wrapped up with a lengthy 7 minute video showing off some of the regions of Ishgard that players will explore.
We’ve got some screen caps of the new Level 60 Disciple of War/Magic armor sets (the quality of the screens is pretty bad, we’ll post as soon as SQUARE ENIX upload the official video), along with the 7 minute video, below. Check them out and let us know what you’re looking forward too in Heavensward!
