FINAL FANTASY XIV Community Representative, Bayohne, has just posted a 2-part round-up of all the fun and games coming in the Manderville Gold Saucer. The FINAL FANTASY XIV servers are going offline for maintenance tonight, during which Patch 2.51 will be pushed, opening the trove of activities to all. Chocobo Racing, Triple Triad, GATEs, mini-games and the Cactpot – there’s something for everyone! Following on from our earlier preview, we have some more details of the fun on offer.

When player’s first visit the Manderville Gold Saucer, they will be able to pick-up the quest “World of Wonders” that provides a full tour of the enormous emporium of fun. If you have no idea where to begin, it’s a good a place as any to kick things off!

Chocobo Racing

Chocobo Racing pits players in Mario Kart style races each other. Chocobos will have special abilities that can be used during the race to either benefit their rider, or hinder and frustrate the riders of other Chocobos. Various power-ups can also be collected on the race track too.

Chocobo Breeding is also an integral part of Chocobo Racing. Chocobos will develop as they are fed and take part in races, however every ‘bo has it’s day and eventually there comes a time when two Chocobos will reach the peak of the abilities and can be bred to produce offspring that inherit some of their bonuses. Competent breeders will be able to lovingly train their feathered friends into racing ‘bos that leave the competion in their dust.

Triple Triad

The classic competitive card game from FINAL FANTASY VIII makes a return. The rules are simple; both players take turns placing their cards on the board. You will be able to “capture” your opponent’s card if you have the higher number on the adjacent side. The player with the most captured cards at the end wins! You won’t lose cards that are captured, so don’t worry!

Players will be able to compete against NPCs or challenge other players to a duel. Yu-Gi-Oh style “It’s time to D-D-D-D-DUEL!” macros are optional, but we highly recommend making one!

At certain times there will also be Triple Triad Tournaments held in the Gold Saucer where you can compete for points.

The Cactpot

The Cactpot is Eorzea’s National Lottery split into two types; Jumbo Cactpot, a weekly lottery, and Mini Cactpot, a daily lottery.

In Jumbo Lottery you choose a 4 digit number. This is your ticket. Then all you need to do is sit back and wait for the Cactpot machines to draw their numbers, if your ticket matches the numbers – you win big! Players who turn in their winning tickets within 1 hour of the draw will also receive a bonus on top of their winnings. Jumbo Cactpot can be played once per week.

In Mini Cactpot you receive a daily scratch card. Numbers from 1-9 are divided into 3 rows across your card. When you first get your card, only 1 number will be visible. You can then scratch off to reveal 3 more numbers. Once 4 numbers are visible, you can take a guess at the numbers on each row. You then choose a row and you receiv prize earnings based on the sum-value of the numbers on that row. It sounds simple, but not all number combinations are possible, so you have to guess well to net the highest winnings. Mini Cactpot can be played once per day.

GATEs (Gold Saucer Active Time Events)

GATEs are special FATEs that take place at various locations within the Manderville Gold Saucer. From hauling lugagge to hunting down pesky Imps, no two GATEs are the same. Announcements are broadcast throughout the Gold Saucer when a GATE starts, so you don’t need to worry about missing out on the fun. One particular GATE of interest is “Any Way the Wind Blows” where only the most agile, and perhaps luckiest, of gamblers will avoid Typhon’s sneezes.

A Gold Saucer wouldn’t be a Gold Saucer without a bevy of mini-games to play. The Manderville Gold Saucer is no exception! There are 4 mini-games on offer: Monster Toss, Crystal Tower Striker, The Moogle’s Paw and Cuff-a-Cur. All of these are easy and quick to play, perfect for downtime while waiting on that Duty Finder queue!

Points = Prizes!

There aren’t any Brucie Bonuses in the Manderville Gold Saucer, so you won’t be winning a brand new car! But there are a bevy of rewards available. Winning in mini-games or striking lucky at the Cactpor earns you Manderville Gold Saucer Points which can be cashed in for prizes like Setzer’s Gambling Outfit, a Fat Chocobo minion and a Fenrir mount!
